A cousin to the flat, a prefold is made of natural fibers. Divided into 3 sections, prefolds derive their name from their template design. While flats are generally uniform in size, prefolds vary from manfacturer to manufacturer. They are still absorbent, but not waterproof and do require a cover and sometimes a snappi. Prefolds do maintain some of the versatility of a flat, due to the various origamiĀ folding styles. Additionally, prefolds can be used in pockets or other modern diapers for increased absorbency.
